Natural Health Girl's Newsletter, What Happened to Me? March 18, 2011 |
Hi, Have you ever had a time in your life where you said, "What happened to me?" I think many of us can say we've said that in several different circumstances sometime throughout our lives. Hopefully, you can say you've said that in good circumstances and not just bad ones. ;0) Well, let me clarify this newsletter's topic by asking you a few more questions. Did you attempt to put on a pair of jeans you wore a month earlier and found that you couldn't even zip them? Did you try on a few more pairs to see if maybe that pair had shrunk? Mmmm....and they didn't. Well, I've run through that scenario about twice now in the past year and a half. Several times I jumped on the bandwagon determined to get back to my previous weight AND hopes of maybe losing a few pounds more. I exercised, counted calories and tried to cut back on the "comfort" foods. When I asked my husband if he wanted to do a weight loss program with me, he happily said he would. Good deal we're in this together! We'll support each other and see results. Well, I knew that his results would come quicker than mine, as it seems that men have a greater capacity to lose weight OVERNIGHT, so I was determined not to get upset about it. But, I wasn't prepared for there to be such a big difference! For two weeks, we watched what we ate. I exercised, sweated and pushed myself through several different exercise routines for 20-30 minutes a day for 4 to 5 times a week. I was pretty consistent and proud of myself. My husband did a few small stretches for flexibility here and there but no exercising. Want to guess the weight loss difference between him and I in two weeks? Well, I lost two pounds, then gained a pound, and at the end of two weeks I had lost 1 pound and he had lost 10! Trust me, I know we should not compare ourselves to others, especially apples to oranges. BUT, he didn't exercise and he even cheated on "sinful" foods like ice cream and beer! I didn't! Yes, it stressed me out, and I think I sabotaged myself by losing hope with my goal. I've tried to lose weight a few more times since then, but with no success. I guess I decided I had so much going on that I just didn't have the mindframe to deal with one more thing, so I let go of worrying about my weight. Until recently, when I realized that my jeans had shrunk again! No, I'm kidding. I realized that all my clothes were just way too tight, and I didn't want to buy bigger ones. So, here I am again on a mission, but this time, I'm doing something different. I've been inspired by a helpful little book about green smoothies. I've only been doing the smoothies for 3 days, but I can already tell what's different from the last weight loss attempts. I'm not as hungry and my cravings are less. Anyways, because I just started this new lifestyle addition, I can't brag about a large weight loss, but what I want to tell you about is how much better I'm feeling. It also feels great to be inspired once again to do good things for my body. So, even if weight loss is not a goal of yours, perhaps taking good care of your body is something that's important to you. I encourage you to check out my recent page on green smoothies and the little book that's motivated me.
