Natural Health Girl's Newsletter, Issue #001 -- Gardasil Vaccine...Wonderful or Worrisome? February 05, 2007 |
| In this newsletter, I'm addressing an issue that really gets me fired up. The issue revolves around Merck's new Gardasil vaccine for four strains of human
papillomavirus made for girls and women. (How come men are left out of this equation?)
It's one thing for the pharmaceutical companies to pump out their drugs and make them available to whoever wants them, but it's another thing when they PUSH them on people especially children. Freedom of choice, isn't that what our country is suppose to be about? Well, if you've been following the news, you may have heard that the governor of Texas just overroad legislative procedure and declared an executive order that Gardasil be mandated in schools for girls 11 years and older. MANDATED! I think it's pretty criminal for someone to have such power when they have financial interests in such a decision. From the USA Today, "Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country. Perry has several ties to Merck and Women in Government. One of the drug company's three lobbyists in Texas is Mike Toomey, Perry's former chief of staff. His current chief of staff's mother-in-law, Texas Republican state Rep. Dianne White Delisi, is a state director for Women in Government. Perry also received $6,000 from Merck's political action committee during his re-election campaign."
