Natural Health Girl's Newsletter, Why Children May Not Be Getting Enough Nutrients April 25, 2010 |
If you have children, grandchildren or close family and friends with children, it is important to consider and understand the nutritional needs of children in your care. So many health problems can be avoided by merely knowing more about the food that we eat. It is no longer a new belief and scientists are now confirming that our modern food supply holds less nutritional value than years past. Mass production farming, chemical use on crops and genetically modified seeds are drastically changing our food supply in undesireable ways and all of it is a detriment to our health. To get the nutrition we need, supplementation with essential fatty acids, herbs, and whole food vitamins and minerals is now recommended by many natural and mainstream health professionals. In our fast paced world, no matter how well you believe you eat, unless you are growing your own year-round, organic garden, chances are your diet is lacking in essential nutrients. Thinking back to when I was a child, there was really no reason for me to suffer with illnesses that I had, but, education on nutrition and food allergies was not as common then as it is now. Because they were painful and traumatic for me, I remember being sick with croup, ear infections, tonsilitis, growing pains and later as a teenager severe menstrual cramps. Perhaps you can relate to what I am saying because you had a similiar experience as a growing child or perhaps you have children now that are experiencing health issues or you just want to know how to keep them strong and healthy. Whatever the reason you're reading this newsletter, I commend you for educating yourself. Lots of well-intended health professionals like to say that certain illnesses are "normal childhood illnesses", but I'd like to say that this is simply an excuse for not knowing and not taking the time to understand the underlying cause of what's going on with the child physically, emotionally and environmentally. The diet, the environment and the heart are the three key places to evaluate. It continues to amaze me how simple this is but how hard it is for some people to believe. Unfortunately, all to often, the answers parents get from mainstream health professionals are...give your child this drug, and your child needs to have this body part cut out. However, on the positive flip side, there are now many knowledgeable, experienced, reputable, successful, caring health professionals that understand that there are better ways, and they are offering their services to educate and help. It is my belief that...our bodies don't fail on their own...we fail our bodies.
