Hi!
So, what do you think of talking about "spit"? Seems like an off-the-wall topic, doesn't it? We don't often think about our spit.
Did you know we make between 2 to 4 pints of spit a day? That seems funny to think about if you picture 2, 3 or 4 pint jars of spit!
According to Wikipedia, "Human saliva is 98% water, which carries electrolytes, mucus, antibacterial compounds and various enzymes."
You might be thinking, "Mmmmm, do I really care to learn about spit?"
Perhaps, you might. Here's why. Amazingly, we can tell a lot from our spit. Saliva/spit can be used to determine hormone balance, pH balance and candida overgrowth or better known as yeast infection. I also just read an article that they may soon be able to determine certain throat cancers from spit.
Do you know that these three imbalances hormone, pH and candida are on the rise? Large portions of the population suffer with these issues but don't realize it. From colds, skin rashes to more severe issues like diabetes, breast and prostate cancer, pms and infertility are linked to one or all three of these imbalances.
If your body's internal fluid terrain is not in balance, disease states begin to manifest. Testing your saliva and your urine is one way to know if your internal fluids are in the proper pH range.
Another simple test of your saliva, is the candida spit test. This easy test can tell you if your body is overloaded with candida yeast. If you've ever taken antibiotics, drank chlorinated water and or ate a Standard American Diet, then chances are good that your body has candida overgrowth.
One small imbalance in your body can trigger a domino effect and create other imbalances in your body. It then becomes hard to discern which health issue came first.
The other spit test I mentioned is a hormone test. These are very simple and effective tests that people can do at home. Typically when you mention "hormones", people think of the main sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen (estradiol). But there are other important hormones like DHEA, progesterone and cortisol. Also, hormone issues are generally attributed to women, but it is just as important for men to test for hormone balance, especially for prostate concerns.
