Shopping Addiction... Why Do We Shop?

Do Americans have a shopping addiction? You might be surprised to learn how and why we are manipulated and motivated by external forces to shop, shop and shop some more. Don't think you have a shopping problem? Well, maybe you don't or do you?
Have you really ever thought about all the "stuff" you throw away?
Do you realize there are reasons we can't help but to throw so much stuff away?
Is your life filled with too much "stuff"?
Within the last 5 years or so, I've been starting to feel overwhelmed with "stuff". More and more I want my environment around me to be free from clutter and free from moving "stuff" from one place to another.
I want this life to be about the important things. There's just not enough time in the day for TOO MUCH STUFF! So, when I came across this video "The Story of Stuff", it really struck a chord with me.
I think it is important for us, whether you are in the United States or abroad, to really think about the world we are creating with our consumer based economies. Our political leaders tell us it's in the best interest for everyone to promote buying and selling. BUT...are we living an extreme version of this belief?
In the United States, we are a society with a shopping addiction.
You might be wondering, why I'm promoting information against buying so much stuff when I myself offer things for sale. Well, we all know we won't quit buying things we need. It's not that we'll quit buying, the real issues are can we prioritize better what we buy and can we lessen our waste?
So, let's ask ourselves:
- What things do I value in life?
- Do the things I buy promote my well-being?
- If I quit buying so much of _____________, will I have more money and time to take better care of myself, my family and my planet?
Check out this video "The Story of Stuff", and see why and how we are being manipulated into OVER filling our lives with "STUFF".
